Palma is the capital of Mallorca and the administrative centre of the Balearic Islands, a city of genuine architectural weight and Mediterranean sophistication. The old town, anchored by the Gothic cathedral of La Seu rising above the bay, contains layers of Roman, Moorish, and European history that are legible in its streets and buildings. It draws a cosmopolitan permanent population alongside an international buyer community that values its scale: large enough for serious cultural and culinary life, compact enough to navigate on foot.

Daily life centres on the Mercat de l’Olivar for fresh produce, the Passeig del Born for cafés and retail, and a restaurant scene that includes Marc Fosh and Aromata at the serious end. The Santa Catalina neighbourhood is the most active dining district. The waterfront Parc de la Mar and the Bellver Castle grounds provide open space within the city.

Palma Airport sits approximately eight kilometres east of the city centre, reachable in under fifteen minutes by car, and operates direct routes to most major European cities year-round, with frequency increasing significantly in summer. There is no high-speed rail connection to the Spanish mainland, making the airport the primary international gateway. Inter-island ferry services to Ibiza, Menorca, and the mainland operate from the port adjacent to the city centre.
