Fayence Canton, Old Oil Mill From The 14th Century

Montauroux is a medieval hilltop village in the Fayence canton of the Var, sitting at roughly 360 metres elevation in the pre-Alpine hills between the Esterel massif and the Gorges de la Siagne. The village retains its original Provençal character: stone lanes, a Romanesque church, and views across terraced countryside that has changed little in centuries. It occupies a quiet but well-connected position, far enough from the coast to feel genuinely rural, close enough to remain practical.

The weekly market in Fayence, five minutes by car, covers daily provisions. Fayence itself offers several well-regarded restaurants, including Le Castellaras. Callian and Montauroux village both have local boulangeries and cafés. The Lac de Saint-Cassien, a large freshwater reservoir, is under ten minutes away and popular for sailing and fishing.

Cannes is approximately 35 kilometres south, reachable in around 40 minutes by car via the D562. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is roughly 55 kilometres away, typically a 50 to 60 minute drive depending on traffic, making it the primary international gateway. The A8 motorway is accessible via Fréjus or Cannes, connecting directly to Monaco, Marseille, and beyond. There is no direct rail service to Montauroux; a car is essential.
