Of the ancient thirteenth-century manor – which followed the same changes of ownership as the fiefdom – practically nothing remains today. With the seizure of power by the Spaniards, in 1639, it suffered serious and irreparable damage. Only the ancient tower that defended the town as an advanced sentry on the west side was saved from the destruction.

The housing part was rebuilt in neo-medieval style in the nineteenth century and today looks like an elegant, stately home, with large frescoed rooms and a beautiful park located on a spur of rock overlooking the river. Privately owned, the castle is open every year on the occasion of the Polenta festival, on the first Sunday after Easter, as the start of the historical parade.
