839 Ha Commercial Farm In Botriver Area

In a magnificent, wind protected valley this 839 ha farm offers a variety of soil conditions, ranging from practically flat deep draining alluvial soils, through gentle hill slopes that are ideal for wheat cultivation, to attractive Rhenosterbos ridges. It’s Overberg climate is typically mild and with it’s average annual rainfall of 650 mm water resources for irrigation purposes, abounds. A total of 45 000 litres per hour can be abstracted from boreholes. There are numerous perennial springs on the farm. One of the attractive natural features is a 50 m high waterfall at the head of a perennial drainage feature that extends into the mountain slopes.

Numerous stands and lanes of poplar and oak trees add to the spectacular features on the farm that provide suitable sites for the establishment of cottages. Infrastructure includes several well maintained farm roads and a number of jeep tracks that provide access to the remote parts of the farm and mountain slopes.

Of the 160 ha of cultivated land, 90 ha is irrigable. A further 155 ha of arable land is available for wheat and oats cultivation and/or grazing. A total of 309 ha is covered by natural fynbos, the flowers of which can be harvested and 202 ha consisting of undisturbed Rhenosterbos.

There are two old cottages that need to be upgraded, as well as two barns, one of which could be restored and turned into a historical monument, as it dates back to Adriaan Van der Stel’s days when he endeavored to establish a horse breeding farm in the valley.
