Sóller occupies a broad valley in the Serra de Tramuntana, the mountain range that runs along Mallorca’s northwest coast and carries UNESCO World Heritage status as a cultural landscape. The town has a distinct identity shaped by its relative isolation, its historic trade links with France, and its well-preserved Modernista architecture, most visibly in the facade of the parish church of Sant Bartomeu and the Banco de Sóller building, both designed by a disciple of Gaudí. It is one of the most architecturally coherent towns on the island.

Daily life in Sóller centres on the Plaça de la Constitució, where Ca’n Mostatxins and several established cafés serve as meeting points. The weekly market runs on Saturdays. The port, Port de Sóller, is two kilometres away by road and offers a tram connection. Restaurants such as Béns d’Avall, just outside town, hold a strong regional reputation.

Sóller is connected to Palma by the historic narrow-gauge railway, a journey of approximately one hour to Palma’s Estació Intermodal, with departures several times daily. By car via the Ma-11 tunnel, Palma is around 30 minutes. Palma de Mallorca Airport is roughly 45 minutes by car and operates year-round international routes to most major European cities, with significantly expanded capacity during summer months.
