Tarascon sits on the west bank of the Rhône in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, directly across the river from Beaucaire and within the broader orbit of Arles, one of the most historically significant cities in southern France. The town is defined by its medieval Château du Roi René, a remarkably intact 15th-century fortress rising directly from the riverbank, and by a landscape where the Alpilles, the Camargue, and the Crau plain converge within a short radius.

Daily life here draws on the resources of Arles, roughly five kilometres away, where the weekly Saturday market on the Boulevard des Lices, the Musée Départemental Arles Antique, and restaurants such as Le Galoubet and L’Atelier de Jean-Luc Rabanel anchor a genuinely cultured provincial life. The Camargue nature reserve and the Alpilles regional park are both accessible within twenty minutes by car.

Arles TGV station, a short drive from Tarascon, connects to Paris Gare de Lyon in approximately four hours. Tarascon itself has a direct rail station on the Marseille to Nîmes line, with Marseille reachable in under an hour and Nîmes in around twenty minutes. Marseille Provence Airport is approximately sixty kilometres away, roughly fifty minutes by car, offering extensive European and international connections.
