Algaida is a small agricultural municipality in the geographic heart of Mallorca, sitting on the plain known as Es Pla, roughly equidistant from Palma and the island’s eastern coast. The town retains a genuinely rural Mallorcan character, with stone buildings, working farmland, and a pace of life largely unchanged by the tourism that defines the island’s coastline. The surrounding landscape is defined by the dramatic silhouette of Puig de Randa, a 543-metre massif that has drawn pilgrims and scholars since the 13th century.

Algaida’s weekly market runs on Fridays. The town has several traditional restaurants, including Hostal d’Algaida on the Palma-Manacor road, known for local Mallorcan cooking. The village of Randa, a few minutes away, sits at the base of Puig de Randa and offers access to the hilltop sanctuaries. Palma’s full range of dining, shopping, and cultural institutions is approximately 25 kilometres west.

Algaida sits directly on the Ma-15 road connecting Palma to Manacor, making both cities accessible in under 30 minutes by car. Palma de Mallorca Airport is approximately 20 kilometres from the town centre, reachable in around 20 minutes by car. The airport operates year-round international routes to major European cities, with significantly expanded connections during the summer season. There is no direct rail or metro service to Algaida.
