Saint-Raphaël sits at the western edge of the Côte d’Azur, where the Massif de l’Estérel meets the Mediterranean. The town has a distinct character shaped by its Belle Époque heritage, its working fishing port, and the dramatic red porphyry coastline that stretches east along the Corniche d’Or toward Cannes. This is a less frenetic stretch of the Riviera than Nice or Monaco, with a year-round residential population and a coastline that remains among the most visually striking on the French Mediterranean.
Daily life centres on the old port and the market at Place Victor Hugo, which runs several mornings a week. The town has a solid restaurant scene along the waterfront, with Les Voiles and Le Sirocco among the established addresses. The Corniche d’Or road east toward Agay and Anthéor gives access to some of the most secluded coves on the coast, largely inaccessible by foot.
Saint-Raphaël has a mainline TGV station with direct services to Paris Gare de Lyon in approximately three hours. Cannes is around 30 minutes by train, and Nice is under an hour. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, the primary international hub for the region, is approximately 60 kilometres east, reachable in around 50 minutes by car depending on traffic. Toulon-Hyères Airport lies roughly 80 kilometres to the west.
