About twenty years ago, the current owner family rebuilt Villa Björkbacken on southern Adelsö in all its splendor. It is a large red-painted wooden house with white detailing, constructed with fine craftsmanship and great respect for the site’s history, partly built upon an original cast concrete vault from the 1930s.

The house offers a wonderful sense of space, with light streaming in through numerous multi-pane windows. Thanks to terraces and outdoor seating areas facing different directions, the sun can be followed from dawn until dusk. Set on elevated ground, the villa enjoys enchanting views over planted gardens, lush groves of woodland, meadows, and the waters of Lake Mälaren.

Generous social spaces are found both indoors and outdoors, and around the large kitchen island family and friends can gather to cook and spend time together. Overnight guests are accommodated in a fully equipped guest house set within the park-like, private garden—an oasis of its own with an avenue of trees, neatly trimmed hedges, fruit trees, greenhouse, swimming pool, pool house, and pétanque court.

The guest house measures 48 sqm, the pool house 28 sqm, a storage/carpentry building 80 sqm, a garden shed 10 sqm, and the greenhouse 15 sqm.

The location is ideal, with bus connections just nearby, and the Adelsö–Sättra nature reserve a short drive away, offering excellent opportunities for excursions, mushroom picking, and hiking. The island also features a swimming area, preschool, local shop, and other everyday conveniences that contribute to a vibrant rural idyll. During the summer months, a taxi boat runs to Birka from the pier, just a short walk from the house. Possibility of a boat mooring.
