The gold has been individually hammered before being brought to a high polish finish, leaving behind a subtle, irregular texture that catches the light differently with every movement.
The smooth bezel follows the outline of the gemstone, surrounding its colour with a continuous border of gold. Its sculptural weight contrasts with the shifting character of the tanzanite, which can appear more blue in cooler daylight and more violet beneath warmer evening light.
Tanzanite is found commercially in only one part of the world: the Merelani Hills of northern Tanzania, beneath Mount Kilimanjaro. Its naturally pleochroic character allows blue and violet tones to reveal themselves as the gemstone moves, making each stone feel uniquely alive.
This pendant is made individually to order. Time is allowed to source a tanzanite with the right balance of colour, clarity and character before the gold is shaped around it and the finished piece undergoes Nellie’s quality checks. The hammered surface will vary subtly from one pendant to another, ensuring that no two are entirely identical.
Designed as a future heirloom, it is a piece for those drawn to colour, texture and gemstones with a sense of presence. Tanzanite is also recognised as a December birthstone and the gemstone traditionally associated with a 24th wedding anniversary.

Tanzanite is commonly heat treated to develop its blue-violet colour. Any known treatments will be disclosed for the individually sourced gemstone. If independent certification is essential, please let us know before ordering so this can form part of the sourcing brief.
