Sintra, a refuge of kings, nobility and artists, ”glorious paradise” (Lord Byron), was considered by UNESCO as a territory with a unique landscape.

And Quinta de Penaferrim is a paradigmatic heritage of Sintra’s charms. It comprises the mansion of the Viscount of Faro e Oliveira, a romantic and magnificent composition from the end of the nineteenth century, the attached servants’ houses, the stables and the guards’ house.

The mansion, located at the top of the property, offers impressive views to the east, over the foothills of the Serra and all the way to Lisbon. This building complex is rich, varied and coherent, with different volumes, advances and setbacks, balconies, bow window, chapel. It is developed on 4 floors and registers the typical architectural eclecticism of the time: large and exquisite halls, some frescoes, some stucco, solid wood floors and ceilings, all with excellent materials, with excellent execution, in very good condition.

Two lush gardens full of exotic vegetation and romantic nooks and crannies make up the complex: one terraced, rationalist, French-inspired, and the other flatter, naturalistic, English-inspired. Fountains, tanks, pergolas, belvederes, hermitage, dovecote, water mines, swimming pool, playground, forest with lake and a small island, are, among others, elements that will be found on a walk through the Quinta.

For the past two months, the building has had an approved rehabilitation and expansion project, and can be equipped with more than 30 suites and a large service area. In total, Quinta de Penaferrim has 5,542sqm of construction area, adding up to the total property of 59,200sqm.
