Villa Santanyí

Santanyí is one of the most architecturally coherent towns in Mallorca, built almost entirely from the warm golden sandstone quarried locally, known as marès. The historic centre retains its medieval street pattern, anchored by the church of Sant Andreu and the adjacent Es Porrassar square, where the weekly Saturday market has operated for centuries. The surrounding municipality sits within a protected natural landscape in the island’s southeast corner, giving the area a character that is markedly quieter and more intact than the resort-heavy coastline to the north.

The Saturday market on Plaça Major draws both residents and buyers from across the island. Restaurants such as Es Molí d’en Bou and local wine bars along Carrer Bisbe Verger serve year-round clientele. Cala Mondrago, a protected natural park beach, is roughly ten minutes by car, as are Cala Llombards and Cala Santanyí.

Palma de Mallorca is approximately 60 kilometres from Santanyí, a drive of around 50 minutes via the Ma-19 motorway. Palma’s Son Sant Joan Airport handles direct connections to most major European cities, with journey times of two to three hours to London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Barcelona. There is no rail connection to the southeast of the island, so a car is essential for daily life in this part of Mallorca.
