Over 250 years old, the Pombaline building on Rua do Barão remains a remarkable testament to the construction and architectural quality of the past. It stands out for its stone walls, which are around one meter thick, its use of fine woods, and the elegant 18th-century tile panels that enrich several rooms. The building also preserves original fresco paintings, created in the tradition of the French and cosmopolitan painter Jean-Baptiste Pillement, who, during his three stays in Portugal, introduced a taste for chinoiserie themes, rococo, seascapes and shipwrecks, as well as scenes from everyday life.
