Salernes is a working Provençal village in the Var department, set in the Haut-Var hills between the Gorges du Verdon and the Var coast. It has a long-established identity as a centre of ceramic and terracotta tile production, a craft that has shaped its architecture and commercial character for centuries. The surrounding landscape is defined by oak forest, olive groves, and limestone ridges, with a density of unspoiled countryside that is increasingly rare in this part of Provence.

The village market runs on Wednesday and Sunday mornings on the central square. Salernes sits roughly 80 kilometres from Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, a drive of around one hour and fifteen minutes via the A8 motorway. Draguignan, the nearest significant town, is approximately 25 kilometres away and provides hospital services, a rail connection, and broader retail. Aix-en-Provence TGV station, with direct high-speed services to Paris in approximately three hours, is around 90 kilometres to the west.
