Sainte-Maxime occupies the northern shore of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, directly facing its more famous neighbour across the water. Where Saint-Tropez draws the seasonal crowd, Sainte-Maxime has retained a quieter, more residential character without sacrificing the quality of light, the pine-covered hillsides, or the deep blue of the Mediterranean. The town has long attracted a discreet, property-owning clientele who value proximity to the glamour of the gulf without the congestion that comes with it.

The town centre offers a covered market on Place du Marché, a seafront promenade lined with restaurants including Le Dauphin and La Maison Bleue, and a sandy beach within walking distance of the main square. By road, Saint-Tropez is roughly 20 kilometres via the D98A, though summer traffic can extend journey times considerably. The nearest major rail connection is Les Arcs-Draguignan, approximately 35 kilometres north, with TGV services to Paris in around four hours. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is approximately 90 kilometres to the east, typically one hour and 15 minutes by car outside peak season, and serves a wide range of European and international routes.
