Saint-Raphaël occupies a privileged position on the Esterel coast, where the red porphyry cliffs of the Massif de l’Esterel meet the Mediterranean. The city has been a destination for discerning visitors since the Belle Époque, when writers and artists established its reputation alongside Cannes and Nice. Today it retains a genuine year-round residential character, distinct from more overtly touristic neighbours, with a working port, a historic centre, and direct access to some of the most dramatic coastal scenery on the Côte d’Azur.

Daily life centres on the Vieux Port and the covered market on Place Victor Hugo, open every morning. The waterfront promenade connects the main beach to the quieter coves of Boulouris and Agay. Restaurants including Le Lamparo and La Voile d’Or serve fresh catch from the local fishing fleet. The marina accommodates vessels up to 30 metres and offers year-round sailing.

Saint-Raphaël-Valescure station sits on the main TGV line, placing Marseille at around 80 minutes and Paris at approximately three hours and fifteen minutes by high-speed rail. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is 60 kilometres to the east, reachable in under an hour by car via the A8 autoroute. The A8 also connects directly to Cannes in 30 minutes and Monaco in under 90 minutes, making Saint-Raphaël a practical base for the wider Riviera.
