Ramatuelle occupies a privileged position on the Saint-Tropez peninsula, a commune of medieval hilltop origins surrounded by protected Maures massif landscape and some of the most sought-after coastline on the French Riviera. The village itself, with its narrow cobbled lanes and centuries-old stone architecture, has retained a character largely unchanged by the development that transformed much of the coast. The Escalet area, on the southern tip of the peninsula, is among the least commercialised stretches of this coastline, bordered by the Domaine du Rayol nature corridor and the Cap Taillat protected headland.
Daily life in Ramatuelle centres on the Tuesday and Friday morning market in the village square. Plage de l’Escalet and Plage de Pampelonne are both within a short drive. The village has a handful of reliable restaurants including La Forge. Saint-Tropez, with its full range of dining, provisioning, and marina services, is approximately 10 kilometres away.
The nearest commercial airport is Toulon-Hyères, roughly 60 kilometres west, with seasonal European connections. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, the primary hub for the region, is approximately 90 kilometres east and offers extensive international routes. The TGV station at Les Arcs-Draguignan, around 45 kilometres north, connects to Paris in under four hours. Saint-Tropez itself is accessible by ferry from Sainte-Maxime and Saint-Raphaël during the summer season.
