Palma is the capital of Mallorca and one of the most architecturally distinguished cities in the western Mediterranean. Its Old Town, centered on the Gothic cathedral of La Seu and the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, contains a dense concentration of medieval palaces, Renaissance courtyards, and Baroque facades that have been carefully preserved. The city carries genuine cultural weight, functioning year-round as a working capital rather than a seasonal resort.

Daily life in Palma centers on the Mercat de l’Olivar for fresh produce, and the restaurants and cafes of the Passeig del Born and Santa Catalina district. The Museu Es Baluard and the Fundació Miró Mallorca anchor the cultural calendar. The waterfront Passeig Maritim connects the Old Town to the marina within a short walk.

Palma Airport, Son Sant Joan, sits approximately 11 kilometers east of the city center and handles direct flights to most major European capitals, with journey times of two hours or less to London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Zurich. There is no high-speed rail connection to mainland Spain, but regular ferry services operate to Barcelona and Valencia. Within the island, the historic Palma to Soller railway provides a scenic connection to the Tramuntana mountains.
