La Calatrava is the oldest and most architecturally significant quarter of Palma’s historic centre, occupying the southeastern edge of the old city above the seafront promenade. Its narrow stone lanes, medieval palaces, and Gothic and Baroque facades reflect centuries of Mallorcan, Arab, and Catalan influence. The neighbourhood sits adjacent to the Cathedral of Santa Maria, known locally as La Seu, and the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, giving it a density of heritage that no other part of Palma can match.

Daily life in La Calatrava places you within walking distance of the Mercat de l’Olivar, Palma’s principal food market, and the restaurant and bar concentration along Carrer de Sant Joan and the Passeig des Born. The seafront promenade and the marina are a short walk south. Palma’s main cultural institutions, including the Es Baluard Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, are within the neighbourhood itself.

Palma de Mallorca Airport is approximately eight kilometres from La Calatrava, reachable in around fifteen minutes by taxi or private transfer. The airport operates direct routes to most major European cities, including London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam, with flight times typically under two and a half hours. There is no high-speed rail connection to the mainland, making air travel the primary link to Barcelona, Madrid, and international destinations.
