È stato costruito nel 1873 ed è un progetto dell’architetto tedesco Ernst Ziller. L’edificio principale a tre piani di 1.050 m2 è il solitario esempio balneare di architettura eclettica in Grecia che combina elementi dello stile gotico e neoclassico. La caratteristica fondamentale più notevole è inoltre il suo intenso carattere difensivo, in grado di resistere alle frequenti incursioni e saccheggi dei pirati di quel periodo. In alcune occasioni, alla fine del XIX secolo, la tenuta ospitò il re Giorgio I, il re dei Greci e la principessa Elisabetta d’Austria, meglio conosciuta come la principessa Sissi. Nello stesso periodo fu visitato anche dalla granduchessa Vera Konstantinovna di Russia (sorella della regina Olga) e da Otto von Bismarck, il più importante statista tedesco del XIX secolo e primo cancelliere dell’Impero tedesco. Fu requisito durante l’invasione tedesca della Grecia (1941-1944) per ospitare il quartier generale delle forze di occupazione tedesche e servì tra il 1958 e il 1962 come uno dei ritiri preferiti di Evangelos Averoff, scrittore e importante personaggio politico di quel periodo.
