Lourmarin occupies a singular position in the Luberon, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished villages in Provence. Its medieval castle, the oldest Renaissance château in Provence, anchors a village of ochre stone lanes, weekly markets, and independent bookshops that have drawn writers and artists for generations. Albert Camus spent his final years here and is buried in the village cemetery.
