1011 West Washington Street, Marfa, Texas 79843

1011 West Washington Street is a discreet, low slung, modern dogtrot home on the northwestern edge of Marfa. Just across Washington street from miles of open ranch land, this home sits in the center of an acre and a half lot covered in native vegetation. The home’s design joins a vernacular 1940’s adobe home with a modern guest suite added in 2007 for the perfect stylistic marriage of ’old’ and ’new’ Marfa.

The original adobe home has a spacious kitchen, office, two bedrooms with a jack-and-jill bath, original wood floors and numerous windows providing substantial natural light. Across the dogtrot’s covered outdoor living space, the suite has vaulted ceilings in the open studio room with kitchenette, luxurious full bath with soaking tub, and a spacious store room accessed from the attached carport.

A corrugated metal roof spans the entire home, unifying the structures and offering visual continuity from the east to west ends. To the south of the home the back yard has a raised garden along the east wall, mesquite trees scattered over the gramma grass, and a smaller welded-wire pet yard attached to the adobe home.
