Marbella occupies a singular position on the Costa del Sol, combining a well-preserved historic old town with one of Europe’s most established luxury resort destinations. The Golden Mile, the stretch of coastline running west from the town centre toward Puerto Banús, has defined high-end residential living on the Mediterranean coast for decades. The city draws an international permanent population alongside seasonal residents from across Europe and the Gulf states, giving it a cosmopolitan character that few comparable coastal cities in Spain can match.

Daily life centres on the old town’s Plaza de los Naranjos, the Paseo Marítimo promenade, and the marina at Puerto Banús, roughly five kilometres west. Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is approximately 60 kilometres east of Marbella, reachable in around 45 minutes by car, and operates direct routes to most major European cities as well as long-haul connections. The AP-7 motorway provides fast access along the coast in both directions. Málaga city, served by high-speed AVE rail connections to Madrid in under two hours, is the primary rail hub for the region.
