Estepona occupies a distinct position on the Costa del Sol, sitting between Marbella to the east and Gibraltar to the south, with the Sierra Bermeja mountains forming a dramatic backdrop. Unlike much of the coast, Estepona has retained a recognisable Andalusian character, with a well-preserved old town of whitewashed streets, flower-lined plazas, and a working fishing port. It has become a preferred address for buyers who want the infrastructure of the Costa del Sol without the density of Marbella.

The old town centres on Plaza de las Flores and Calle Real, with restaurants including La Escollera at the port and El Gaviero for fresh seafood. The Selwo area sits east of the town centre, a short drive from the Selwo Aventura park and the beach at Playa del Cristo. Puerto Banús is approximately 20 minutes by car.

Estepona is served by the AP-7 and A-7 coastal roads, connecting directly to Marbella in around 25 minutes and Málaga city in approximately one hour by car. Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is the primary international hub, located roughly 85 kilometres east, with a drive time of around 55 to 65 minutes. Gibraltar Airport, approximately 50 kilometres west, offers an additional option for European connections.
