The Centro district is the historic and cultural core of Málaga, a city that has undergone a significant transformation over the past two decades without losing the density of its Moorish, Roman, and Renaissance layers. The streets around Calle Larios, the Alcazaba, and the Cathedral quarter carry genuine architectural weight, with 19th-century bourgeois facades sitting alongside medieval fortifications and contemporary cultural institutions. Daily life in Centro revolves around the Mercado Central de Atarazanas, the pedestrianised Calle Larios, and a restaurant scene that includes El Pimpi, Uvedoble Taberna, and Kaleja. Málaga María Zambrano station connects to Madrid by high-speed AVE rail in under two and a half hours, and to Seville in approximately two hours. The Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is 12 kilometres from Centro, reachable in around 20 minutes by car or via the Cercanías C1 line from the city centre. Regular direct flights serve London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and most major European cities.
