Built in the 18th century, Château d’Illois was designed as an elegant hunting lodge and became, for many years, a prominent venue for grand Norman hunts. Count Auguste de Sarcus, a famous wolf-hunting lieutenant, hosted hunting parties, horses, and dogs here before heading out to hunt in the prestigious forests of Eu, Aumale, and Eawy.
