The design of the new Panathinaikos stadium in the Votanikos area, in the center of Athens, is not just a projection of the future image of the area emerging from the study plans. It is also an attempt to refer to the future of how we think about the city today, its public spaces, its buildings, its landscape, and, in general, our life within it.

The redesign of the public spaces is essentially the redesign of the meaning of the urban landscape in the city center and the wider area. The building’s approach from the plaza is done via pedestrian streets, outdoor stairs on the slope, and pedestrian bridges.
The reception area (plaza) functions as the dominant unifying space—like a heart, where the completion and satisfaction of simple needs is transformed into a complex participatory social process. It is also crucial to emphasize that as users and visitors move through the complex’s network, they experience it as a decentralized and re-centered system. This happens partly because the building transforms each of its spaces, with more than one connection, into an ephemeral center—a space-guide that one can invoke to orient themselves and decide where to go next.
