Fréjus occupies a distinctive position on the Var coast, where the Massif de l’Esterel meets the Mediterranean. Founded as Forum Julii by Julius Caesar, it retains one of the most complete collections of Roman monuments in France, including an amphitheatre, aqueduct, and thermal baths that remain part of the urban fabric. The city carries a layered identity: a working Provençal town with genuine local character, set between the red porphyry hills of the Esterel and the Golfe de Fréjus.

Daily life centres on the Place Formigé market, held several mornings a week, and the old town’s covered market hall. The port district of Fréjus-Plage offers waterfront dining, and Saint-Raphaël, immediately adjacent, adds further restaurant and retail options. The Esterel Massif provides direct access to hiking and coastal trails.

Fréjus-Saint-Raphaël train station connects to Marseille in approximately 90 minutes and to Nice in around 50 minutes by TGV or intercity services. The A8 autoroute provides road access to both cities in comparable times. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, the primary international hub for the region, is approximately 60 kilometres east, reachable in under an hour by car outside peak traffic.
