The declaration, endorsed by other important international institutions such as ICOMOS and IUCN, particularly valued its spontaneous nature, its Mediterranean agricultural landscape and its combination of hydraulic systems of Islamic origin for the cultivation of olive trees. The declaration highlights the relationship between man and nature, the transformation of the original natural environment to take advantage of the resources in the most intelligent way possible with the means and knowledge of each historical period. The protected area, which stretches from Andratx to Formentor through nineteen municipalities, occupies 30,745 hectares in its central area, to which must be added 52,760 hectares on land and 25,857 hectares by sea.
