Estella

Villa Estella rests directly above the shoreline on Corfu’s northern coast, in the green headland landscape near Karousades where the island begins to feel quieter and more expansive. The sea here shifts constantly between deep cobalt and clear turquoise, and from the terraces the view stretches uninterrupted across the Ionian toward the distant Albanian mountains. Set within mature gardens filled with palms, cypress and old pines, the house sits low within the landscape, sheltered from the road and oriented entirely towards the water.

The approach moves through wide lawns and established planting before opening onto the main house and pool terrace. Although substantial in scale, the property maintains the atmosphere of a private seaside residence rather than a formal estate. Stone paving, shaded verandas and broad outdoor sitting areas soften the transition between house and garden, while the sound of the sea remains present throughout the grounds.

Inside, the principal living spaces are arranged around the view. Floor-to-ceiling openings draw the coastline directly into the interiors, and throughout the day the changing light reflects softly across pale stone floors and light-toned furnishings. The main salon opens broadly onto the covered terrace, allowing the indoor and outdoor sitting areas to function almost as one continuous space during the summer months. White upholstered seating, marble surfaces and classical detailing create an atmosphere that feels relaxed rather than overly formal, balanced by the constant presence of the sea beyond.

The kitchen and dining areas remain connected to the main reception spaces, positioned to maintain open sightlines towards the pool and coastline. Large windows on multiple sides bring cross ventilation through the house, particularly in the afternoon when the sea breeze moves inland from the water below. From nearly every principal room, the horizon remains visible.

The four bedrooms are distributed across two levels, each designed with privacy and access to outdoor space in mind. Several open directly onto terraces or balconies overlooking the sea, while the principal suite extends into a larger sitting area with long views across the coastline. The bathrooms are finished in pale marble and soft neutral tones, with natural light filtering through tall windows and shutters.

The outdoor spaces define much of daily life here. A long rectangular swimming pool sits at the edge of the terrace facing directly towards the Ionian, framed by balustrades and mature planting. Around it, multiple sitting and dining areas are positioned beneath pergolas and covered verandas, allowing shade throughout the day. One stone terrace beneath the trees contains the outdoor barbecue area, sheltered naturally by dense greenery and cooled by the sea air moving through the garden.

The grounds themselves extend across 4,200 square metres, landscaped with lawns, palms, flowering shrubs and established Mediterranean planting that give the property an unusual sense of maturity and privacy for a waterfront home. Despite the secluded atmosphere, nearby beaches, tavernas and villages along the northern coast remain easily accessible.

As evening settles over the water, the light turns silver across the bay and the terrace quietens except for the movement of the trees above the shoreline. From the veranda, the horizon remains open long after sunset, with the sea continuing to hold the last colour of the day.
