In June 1948, Carol II, King of Romania, was looking for a house worthy of the love that had cost her the throne. He found it in Estoril: a neoclassical palace from the early twentieth century, at the end of a cobbled avenue, guarded by an immense stone pine. It was called Villa Mar y Sol — and it was the name, they say, that won him over. There he lived with Elena Lupescu until he died in April 1953, between dinners of former monarchs, casino summers and the elegant silence of a seaside resort that, in those years, was the secret capital of Europe’s exiled royalty.

In the 2000s, the palace was converted into a luxury private condominium — two discreet wings erected around the original house, without touching it. The property maintains its 5,216 m² of land, of which about 3,800 m² are gardens, where the old tennis court has given way to the swimming pool. There are currently only two apartments inside the palace. This is one of them.
