Cannes carries a weight that few cities on the Côte d’Azur can match. Known internationally for its film festival, its Croisette promenade, and its concentration of palace hotels, it is a city that operates at a genuinely global level while remaining compact and navigable. The Palm Beach quarter, at the eastern tip of the bay, sits apart from the commercial centre, offering a quieter residential character with direct seafront exposure and views across the Lérins Islands.
The Croisette’s restaurants, including Maison Lenôtre and the brasseries of the Carlton and Martinez hotels, are a short drive west. The Marché Forville, Cannes’ main covered market, supplies the city daily except Mondays. The Lérins Islands, including the Île Sainte-Marguerite, are reached by a 15-minute ferry from the Vieux-Port.
Cannes is served by its own train station on the main Marseille to Ventimiglia line, with direct TGV connections to Paris in approximately five and a half hours. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is 26 kilometres east, roughly 30 minutes by car, and handles direct routes to most major European cities as well as long-haul destinations. The A8 motorway provides fast access to Monaco, Nice, and Aix-en-Provence.
