Biot is a medieval hilltop village in the Alpes-Maritimes, sitting between the coast and the pre-Alpine hills at an elevation that keeps it distinct from the resort towns below. It is best known internationally as the home of the Fernand Léger Museum and as the origin of Biot glassblowing, a craft tradition that has shaped the village’s identity for decades. The old village retains its arcaded squares, ochre facades, and narrow lanes, giving it a character that is genuinely historic rather than curated for tourism.
The village centre has a weekly market, several respected restaurants including La Forge, and artisan glass studios along the main commercial street. Antibes and its covered Marché Provençal are a ten-minute drive. Sophia Antipolis, Europe’s largest technology park, is immediately adjacent, making Biot a practical base for professionals.
Antibes train station is approximately eight kilometres away, with direct TGV connections to Paris in roughly five and a half hours. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is around twenty kilometres from Biot, reachable in twenty to thirty minutes by car depending on traffic, and serves direct routes to most major European cities as well as intercontinental destinations. The A8 motorway provides fast access along the entire Côte d’Azur corridor.
