Biot is a medieval hilltop village in the Alpes-Maritimes that has maintained a distinct identity separate from the coastal resort towns below it. The old village is compact and largely pedestrianised, built around a central square shaded by plane trees, with ramparts, vaulted passageways, and stone architecture dating to the thirteenth century. Biot is internationally recognised as a centre of glassblowing craft, a tradition established here in the 1950s, and is home to the Musée National Fernand Léger, one of the most significant modern art museums on the Côte d’Azur.
The village centre has a weekly market, several well-regarded restaurants including Les Arcades, and artisan glass studios along the main commercial streets. Antibes is twelve kilometres south, with its covered Marché Provençal and extensive marina. Sophia Antipolis, Europe’s largest technology park, is immediately adjacent, making Biot a practical base for professionals as well as second-home buyers.
Biot-Sophia Antipolis train station connects to Nice in approximately thirty minutes and to Cannes in around twenty minutes, with regular TER services. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is roughly twenty kilometres away, reachable in twenty to twenty-five minutes by car. The A8 motorway provides direct access to Monaco, approximately forty kilometres east, and to Aix-en-Provence and Marseille to the west.
