Palma is the capital of Mallorca and the administrative center of the Balearic Islands, a city that carries genuine architectural and cultural weight. There is no high-speed rail connection to the Spanish mainland, so the airport is the primary international gateway. Inter-island ferry services to Ibiza, Menorca, and the mainland operate from the port adjacent to the city center.
