Alaró is a small historic town in the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana in central Mallorca, sitting at the base of a dramatic limestone ridge crowned by the ruins of Castell d’Alaró, a medieval fortress with origins in the Moorish period. The town retains a working, unhurried character that distinguishes it from the more tourist-oriented villages of the island, with a compact historic centre of stone townhouses, a central plaça, and a parish church that anchors daily life.

The weekly market runs on Fridays. The surrounding Raiguer region is one of Mallorca’s established wine and almond-growing areas, with producers including Bodegues Biniagual nearby. Alaró has its own restaurants and cafés on Plaça de la Vila. Inca, the island’s main commercial hub, is roughly ten minutes by car and offers a broader range of shops and the Thursday leather market.

Alaró sits approximately 25 kilometres northeast of Palma, reachable in around 25 to 30 minutes by car via the Ma-13 motorway. The town is also served by the Palma to Inca railway line, with Consell-Alaró station a short drive from the centre, offering regular services into Palma in under 30 minutes. Palma de Mallorca Airport is approximately 35 kilometres away, around 35 to 40 minutes by car, with extensive year-round international connections.
