Saint-Raphaël sits at the western edge of the Côte d’Azur, where the Massif de l’Estérel meets the Mediterranean. The town is defined by the contrast between its red porphyry cliffs and the deep blue of the sea, a landscape that sets it apart from the more manicured resorts to the east. The old port, the Belle Époque villas along the seafront, and the proximity to the Corniche de l’Estérel give the town a character that is both historically grounded and naturally dramatic.
Daily life centres on the Vieux Port and the market at Place Victor Hugo, which runs most mornings. The town has a solid range of restaurants along the waterfront, including seafood-focused addresses near the port. The Corniche d’Or road connects Saint-Raphaël directly to Théoule-sur-Mer and Cannes, with coves and beaches accessible along the route. Fréjus, with its Roman amphitheatre and broader retail offer, is five minutes by car.
Saint-Raphaël has a mainline TGV station with direct services to Paris Gare de Lyon in approximately three hours. Cannes is around 40 minutes by train, and Nice is under an hour. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, the primary international hub for the region, is approximately 60 kilometres east, reachable in around 50 minutes by car depending on traffic. Marseille Provence Airport offers an alternative to the west, roughly 120 kilometres away.
