Set along a quiet gravel road between meadows, forests and Lake Bornan, two timber farmhouses by Jordens Arkitekter reinterpret the traditional Swedish farmstead for modern life. After decades of designing homes for others, the architects became developers themselves, allowing them to follow each tree from forest to finished house and create architecture where craftsmanship, construction and natural materials remain beautifully visible.

Hand-hewn timber still bears the marks of the axe, materials are chosen to age gracefully, and every detail is carefully considered. The result is a home designed to feel as timeless in a hundred years as it does today.

THE HOME

Organised around a sheltered courtyard, the house is designed for a life that flows naturally between indoors and out. A generous 65 sqm terrace extends the living spaces into the landscape, creating room for long dinners, gardening, work and quiet mornings overlooking the countryside.

At the heart of the home, the kitchen opens into a double-height living room with a fireplace and expansive glazing that frames the changing seasons. Flexible rooms on the ground floor can easily adapt as guest rooms, home offices or additional living spaces.

Upstairs, an open family room connects the private bedrooms while maintaining a visual link to the living room below. Filled with natural light and generous volumes, the upper floor is designed to evolve with family life over time.

THE BARN

Included with Farmhouse 1 is a detached 128 sqm barn with integrated carport, designed with the same architectural care as the main house. Rather than prescribing a single function, it offers remarkable flexibility – becoming an artist’s studio, workshop, showroom, guest house or inspiring workspace.

Like the traditional farms of Roslagen, it allows home and work to exist side by side once again. Life on Väddö moves at a gentler pace. Local dairies, bakeries, vegetable farms, smokehouses and farm shops define the rhythm of the seasons, while Lake Bornan and the Roslagen archipelago are part of everyday life.

Morning swims, fresh bread, locally produced cheese, long coastal walks and evenings outdoors become part of a daily routine rather than an occasional escape. Stockholm is only 90 minutes away, yet it feels worlds apart.
