Rodono House was built in 1866 as a shooting lodge and is built of whinstone with sandstone corner stones under pitched Scottish slate roofs. The main rooms are arranged to look out over the loch and there is a delightful terrace to the south of the house. It is a home of exceptional quality and elegance.

The house offers outstanding accommodation. The double front doors lead into a large reception hall with open fire and a cloakroom off. An inner hall with a magnificent stairway gives access to the drawing room and dining room which are connected by a small gallery and both have exceptional views to the south over the Loch. Off the central corridor is the kitchen and then the utility room from where the study, boot room with back door and internal door to garage can be found. A separate access to the covered is adjacent to the kitchen. There is a basement which houses the wine cellar, coal and wood store, workshop and finally the boiler room.

The first floor comprises the principal bedroom with a luxurious bathroom and a twin bedroom which connects to an upstairs sitting room (or bedroom 5) which share an adjacent bathroom. Two further bedrooms, a generous shared bathroom and separate WC with dressing area complete the accommodation on this floor. There is a floored attic with good storage space on the second floor.

Coachman’s Cottage
The Coachman’s Cottage is an attractive traditional building situated opposite the back door. It comprises a kitchen and large bathroom on the ground floor and a sitting room and bedroom upstairs.

Outside
Rodono House is set in approximately 6 acres of gardens and grounds which include frontage onto St Mary’s Loch. There is a terrace in front of the house and to the south. Behind the house is a gravel parking area which is reached by a tarmac driveway from the main road. There are two sheds, one housing logs and the other for machinery. An area below the A708 is also owned by Rodono House: here the current owners have built a T-shaped jetty leading out to St Mary’s Loch. Ownership of this area gives Rodono House riparian rights to fish for trout and sail on St Mary’s Loch.

Rodono House has an exceptional elevated position above St Mary’s Loch with views across the loch from all the main rooms. It is in the Yarrow Valley in the heart of the Scottish Borders. Both the loch and the Yarrow Valley are designated by the Scottish Borders Council as an Area of Great Landscape Value. The loch is rated as a European Site of Special Scientific Interest and Conservation and the Southern Upland Way runs along the far bank.

Rodono is served by the towns of Selkirk and Moffat, both only 16 miles away and providing everyday services. The larger town of Galashiels is 22 miles away and has a wider range of shops and facilities including the the Borders General Hospital. Edinburgh and its airport are 42 miles to the north.
