There’s an unexpected sense of peace to this Notting Hill mews. On a quiet, cobbled lane that springboards to the bustle of Portobello, a blonde-brick façade reads as surprisingly regal – white sash windows, a pedimented doorway, a sage-green door. Behind it, three floors unfold with an easy flow.
The ground floor is given over to a kitchen and reception room that operate as one. Handleless cabinetry in soft white runs along two walls, set against a sage glass splashback and grey stone worktops. Doors draw back to a south-facing courtyard screened in slatted wood – a still, private spot for all seasons. Upstairs, the main social hub spans the full width of the house. Tall windows filter in light; floor-to-ceiling shelving is primed for collections of paperbacks or art. A nook to the far end serves as an idyllic study spot, with an outlook over the courtyard below.
The top floor belongs entirely to the principal bedroom: opening on one side to a dedicated dressing room, then out through the other to a private balcony. A neighbouring family bathroom is streamlined, host to a bathtub with an overhead shower. Two further bedrooms – on the ground and first floor – are thoughtfully arranged, served by a shower room.
On the cusp of two of Notting Hill’s most renowned arteries – Kensington Park Road and Portobello Road – find yourself in the heart of the action. Head for brunch at local favourites Farm Girl and Beam, pick up provisions at The Grocer on Elgin, or celebrate special occasions at three-Michelin-starred Core by Clare Smyth. The area’s countless vintage boutiques and market stalls are prime perusing territory, as is local gallery Siegfried Contemporary. For something more energetic, work out at Body Works West or go for a stroll in nearby Holland Park.
