Villa Frankenburg—an icon of historic architecture—was built by Prince Karl of Bavaria under the direction of the renowned architect Michael Tölzer.

Prince Karl of Bavaria (full name: Karl Theodor Maximilian August, 1795–1875) was a Bavarian field marshal and Imperial Councilor. As the younger brother of King Ludwig I, he played a pivotal role in Bavarian military history during the 19th century and is, among other things, the historical namesake of the Upper Bavarian municipality of Karlsfeld. Originally conceived as a residence for Prince Karl of Bavaria and his second wife, Henriette, the estate was completed in 1866 and has since been preserved as an outstanding example of royal architecture. As a listed architectural gem, Villa Frankenburg once again shines with the splendor that once so impressively defined it, while its historical integrity has been thoughtfully preserved.

In recent years, the villa underwent a comprehensive restoration carried out by experts. In strict compliance with historic preservation regulations, elaborate paintwork, ornate stucco, and impressive frescoes were faithfully reconstructed. The reconstruction was based on detailed historical documentation as well as contemporary technical expertise. The result is a timeless blend of historical authenticity and modern living comfort that impressively preserves the character of the original architecture while ensuring contemporary usability.

Villa Frankenburg comprises approximately 20 rooms and boasts a generous total floor area of about 738 m². The park-like grounds cover approximately 3,764 m² and frame the property with a stately setting that offers a spectacular view of Lake Tegernsee. Spacious living and private rooms, the highest-quality craftsmanship, and exquisite finishes characterize the interior and lend each area a distinctive elegance. The architecture captivates with a harmonious blend of classical grandeur and light-filled, contemporary craftsmanship.

Today, Villa Frankenburg shines in new splendor without compromising its historical integrity. Its meticulous restoration has transformed it into an incomparable retreat that offers flexible usage options to meet the highest standards.
