Sóller occupies a broad valley in the Serra de Tramuntana, the mountain range that runs along Mallorca’s northwest coast and carries UNESCO World Heritage status as a cultural landscape. The town has a distinct identity shaped by its historic trade links with France, visible in the Modernista architecture of its central Plaça de Constitució and the church of Sant Bartomeu. The surrounding groves of orange and lemon trees, the encircling mountains, and the relative difficulty of access have kept Sóller unhurried and architecturally coherent.

Daily life in Sóller centres on the market square, the weekly Saturday market, and a reliable selection of independent restaurants and cafés. The nearby hamlet of Biniaraix is the starting point for the famous cobbled trail up to the Barranc de Biniaraix. The Port de Sóller, roughly three kilometres away, provides a working harbour, beaches, and additional dining options.

The historic narrow-gauge wooden train connects Sóller to Palma in approximately one hour, departing from a station in the town centre. By car, the MA-11 road through the Coll de Sóller tunnel reduces the drive to Palma to around 30 minutes. Palma de Mallorca Airport is approximately 45 kilometres away, typically 40 to 50 minutes by car, and operates year-round international routes across Europe.
