Sóller occupies a broad valley in the Serra de Tramuntana, the mountain range that runs along Mallorca’s northwest coast and holds UNESCO World Heritage status as a cultural landscape. The town has a distinct character shaped by its relative isolation: until the road tunnel opened in 1997, the only practical land route was a mountain pass. That history produced an unusually self-contained community with well-preserved modernista architecture, a working orange-grove economy, and a pace of life that sets it apart from the island’s resort towns.

The Plaça de sa Constitució is the social centre, with the Café Central and Bar Soller drawing locals daily. The weekly market runs on Saturdays. Port de Sóller, the harbour district, is three kilometres away by road or by the historic tram that runs from the town centre. Restaurants along the port include Es Canyis and Béns d’Avall, the latter holding a Michelin star.

The Palma-Sóller railway, operating since 1912, connects the town to Palma in approximately one hour, departing from the Plaça d’Espanya terminus. By car via the tunnel, Palma is around 30 minutes. Palma de Mallorca Airport is approximately 45 minutes by road and serves direct routes to most major European cities, with connections to intercontinental hubs through Madrid and Barcelona.
