Santanyí is one of the most architecturally coherent towns in the southeast of Mallorca, built almost entirely from the warm golden sandstone quarried locally for centuries. The weekly market, the medieval church of Sant Andreu, and the compact grid of stone-paved streets give the town a self-contained character that has attracted a discerning international community without sacrificing its Mallorcan identity. It sits at the heart of a municipality that includes some of the island’s most protected coastline.

The town centre holds a strong weekly market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, several well-regarded restaurants including Es Cau and Café Sa Plaça, and independent food and wine shops. The beaches of Cala Santanyí and Cala Llombards are within ten minutes by car, and the larger resort of Cala d’Or is roughly fifteen minutes north.

Palma is approximately 60 kilometres from Santanyí, reachable in around 50 minutes by car via the Ma-19. Palma de Mallorca Airport handles direct flights to most major European cities, with journey times from the airport to Santanyí running to roughly 45 to 55 minutes depending on traffic. There is no direct rail connection to the southeast of the island, so a car is essential for daily life in this part of Mallorca.
