Sainte-Maxime occupies a privileged position on the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, directly facing its more famous neighbor across the water. The town has long attracted a discerning residential clientele who value the same quality of light, pine-covered hillsides, and deep-blue coastline as Saint-Tropez, without the seasonal congestion. Its seafront promenade, the marina, and the old town centered around the Place Victor Hugo give the town a coherent, unhurried character that holds year-round.
The covered market on Rue Fernand Bessy runs daily in season and several mornings a week off-season. Restaurants along the port, including Le Maxime and La Maison Bleue, serve reliable Provençal and seafood menus. The town beach and the longer Plage de la Nartelle are both within easy reach by car or bicycle.
Toulon-Hyères Airport is approximately 60 kilometers west, around 50 minutes by car, and handles domestic and European routes. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport, the primary regional hub with intercontinental connections, is roughly 80 kilometers east, typically 75 to 90 minutes by road. Saint-Raphaël-Valescure, the nearest TGV-connected station, is about 25 kilometers away and places Paris Gare de Lyon within approximately four hours by high-speed rail.
