Sainte-Maxime occupies a privileged position on the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, directly facing its more famous neighbour across the water. The town has long attracted a discerning residential clientele who value the same quality of light and coastline as Saint-Tropez but with a calmer, more liveable character year-round. The waterfront promenade, the old port, and the pine-covered hills rising behind the town give Sainte-Maxime a coherent identity that holds up well outside the summer season.

The town centre offers daily markets, a covered market hall, and a solid range of restaurants along the port and promenade. La Nartelle, a residential area east of the centre, sits close to its own beach. Saint-Tropez is accessible by ferry from the port in approximately 15 minutes, making the restaurants and boutiques of the peninsula genuinely practical for regular use.

Sainte-Maxime is served by the RN98 coastal road connecting to Fréjus and the A8 motorway, placing Cannes roughly 60 kilometres away and Nice approximately 90 kilometres. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is the primary hub, reachable in around 75 to 90 minutes by car depending on traffic. Toulon-Hyères Airport offers a closer alternative for regional and select European routes, approximately 80 kilometres to the west.
