Saint-Tropez occupies a singular position in the French Riviera, a former fishing village on the Var coast that has evolved into one of the most recognised addresses in the world without losing the physical character that made it desirable in the first place. The old port, the Place des Lices, the narrow lanes of La Ponche, and the hilltop citadel remain the anchors of daily life here, giving the town a coherent identity that larger resort cities on the Côte d’Azur cannot replicate.

Daily life centres on the Tuesday and Saturday markets at Place des Lices, the fish stalls along the port, and restaurants including Vague d’Or at Résidence de la Pinède and Le Girelier on the quay. The beaches of Pampelonne, roughly five kilometres south, are reached by car or bicycle along the Route de Tahiti.

Saint-Tropez has no train station. The nearest rail connection is at Saint-Raphaël, approximately 35 kilometres west, with TGV services to Paris in roughly four hours. Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport is around 100 kilometres east, typically one hour and 15 minutes by road outside peak season, though summer traffic on the A8 and coastal roads can extend that considerably. Helicopter transfers from Nice to the Saint-Tropez heliport take approximately 30 minutes.
