An 1890 villa made of millstone, with a garden and outbuildings, 50 minutes from Paris. The property is among the most emblematic of the town and is tucked away behind an elegant iron gate that opens in front of the residence into an enclosed garden including outbuildings. A harmoniously split cobbled drive leads up to the house. The richly decorated residence is characteristic of its era’s eclecticism. Thanks to its picturesque style, it strikes a clear contrast with the surrounding buildings. The façade is divided into three vertical rows of openings over three levels and is marked by many recesses both vertically and horizontally. A circular tower, topped with a pepper-pot roof, stands at the northern corner, while the southern part is occupied by a protruding section that is higher than the rest of the façade, topped with a half-hipped roof. The edifice includes a clever mix of several colours: exposed millstone, red and white bricks, dark green or green glazed bricks, and glazed ceramic taco tiling. The décor also uses wood, particularly moulded angle braces on dormer windows and the porch, and the edifice is punctuated with wide windows, including mullion windows, allowing the interior to be bathed in light. All in all, it forms a veritable manifesto for late 19th century architecture. Lastly, near to the house, which is surrounded by a belt of green, there are former stables that have been converted into outbuildings.
