Mahón, the capital of Menorca, occupies a commanding position above one of the largest natural harbours in the Mediterranean, a deep-water port that has shaped the city’s character for centuries. The historic centre retains its Georgian and Spanish colonial architecture, a legacy of British occupation in the eighteenth century, with wide streets, covered arcades, and stone townhouses that give the old town a distinctly composed, unhurried quality unlike anywhere else in the Balearics.

Daily life in Mahón centres on the Plaça de la Constitució and the covered market, Mercat des Claustre, housed in a former convent. The port promenade offers restaurants including Ses Forquilles and La Minerva. Cala Mesquida and Es Grau beaches are within fifteen minutes by car.

Menorca Airport is approximately five kilometres from Mahón city centre, around ten minutes by car, and operates direct flights to major European cities including London, Barcelona, Madrid, and Frankfurt, with frequency increasing significantly from April through October. Regular ferry services from the port connect Mahón to Barcelona (around eight hours overnight) and Valencia. Barcelona is also reachable by air in under an hour.
