Maó, the capital of Menorca, sits above one of the deepest natural harbours in the Mediterranean, a fact that has shaped its character across centuries of British, Spanish, and Moorish influence. Barcelona is reachable by overnight ferry from the port of Maó, a crossing of around eight hours, and by air in under an hour.
